The day began on August 19, 1988, when United States President Ronald Reagan declared August 21 to be a National Day of Elders.
Reagan recognized the achievements of his country’s older generation, leading to the designation of National Day of the Citizen every third Sunday in August.
He has provided adequate health facilities by providing them with a safe environment and enabling them to live with dignity and a sense of freedom.
